Building with Stainless Steel Collated Brads
No doubt the part of any home improvement project that most people dread is the ritual pounding of nails into wood. The bigger the project the more pounding you have to do. In fact one of the biggest chunks of time in any project is the time spent having to nail wood or other materials together. If you find yourself doing a lot of building projects then you owe it to yourself to check out stainless steel collated brads and see how they can take the grunt work out of your nailing.
Stainless steel collated brads are nails that have a depressed head that are designed for finishing work and any type of project where you do not want the head of the nail to be seen after it is nailed in. The brad head helps to sink the nail into the wood or other material. And, of course, you already know the stainless steel part of the brad helps to protect it from rust and corrosion over time. So then what is the collated part about? Collated stainless steel brads are specifically designed for use with automatic nail guns. The brads come attached either in long strips or in coils so they can easily be fed into the nail gun and automatically fed through. Talk about taking the work out of nailing!
My wife and I recently decided we wanted to add molding to our ceilings in the dining room and den. We gathered all our materials and purchased some stainless steel brads so that the final project would look clean and last for years to come. Once we started in on the project we quickly realized that the bulk of the work we were doing was holding up the molding and nailing it into place. Realizing that this would go a lot faster if I had a nail gun I headed out to my local hardware store and picked up a nail gun and two rolls of stainless steel collated brads.
You would have thought my wife gave me a double latte espresso!
The stainless steel collated brads were flying into place. We were putting up the molding at an unbelievable pace. What took us over 2 hours to put up 3 sections now we were getting entire walls done in less than 15 minutes!
There was another advantage to using the collated stainless steel brads that we soon realized as we looked at the end result. The nail gun was sinking each nail perfectly using the depressed head. Unlike the section we had done manually where every nail was at a slightly different level, the new sections done using the collated stainless steel brads we could hardly see the nail at all.
Once we finished this project I realized that the stainless steel brads would also be a great way to redo my outside deck. This was a bigger project than putting up the molding as I had to literally tear the entire deck down to the supporting joists. Once that was done I wanted to create a smooth deck surface without any nails protruding and could last through all sorts of weather without rusting, which made the stainless steel brads an ideal choice. I loaded up my nail gun with the collated brads and installing planks had never been easier. I was laying a plank every few minutes. What took days to build before I had completed in less than 4 hours this time around!
If you have a lot of projects on your list that require a clean finish to them and you don't want to waste your time nailing the old fashion way check into using collated stainless steel brads combined with your new best friend the nail gun. Your wife will never again complain you don't do enough around the house!
